The Choir

Archons are a triumvirate of individuals elected by the Choir who act as figureheads. They do not have any additional power to approve or deny legislation, but can convene and lead assemblies. A clever Archon can utilize their visibility to cultivate friendships and wield influence in elections. Archons must be at least thirty-five years old.

The Magistrates

  • Magistrate of Phenomena
  • Magistrate of Justice: oversees judicial and penal processes; deploys lawkeepers to regions
  • Magistracy of Protection: oversees all things related to the military; can be given command of drafted troops in regions. Includes Aegis Sentinel & Nautikon Fleet.
  • Magistracy of Public Works: oversees government construction projects, infrastructure, food distribution, and monitors overall welfare of the city. Includes Civil Couriers Service.
  • Magistrate of Balances: oversees collection of census data, taxes, and tributes
  • Magistracy of Knowledge: oversees scholar colleges and keeps records

House of the Silver Sword

The Yinjian family rose to prominence due to the work of the scholar-reckoner Zaya Yinjian, who studied khaos extensively and developed related technologies, before becoming a personal favorite of the Last Empress who bestowed land and titles upon her line. While on the fringes of major politics for decades, they have again risen to prominence with the speeches and charisma of Lei Yinjian, a staunch opponent of Esotericism who promised (and delivered) sweeping regulatory laws surrounding khaos.

House Tycheon has long been regarded as the most powerful family in Lyre due to having a unusually high number of members in the Choir for the past century. Traditionally, the head of the Tycheon house selects promising youths from the lower classes of the city and educates them in political affairs, then formally adopts the most talented into the family. This has resulted in a veritable powerhouse of ambitious and cutthroat loyal to the name that gives them power and legitimacy. It is said that their two-headed eagle crest looks both ways to avoid being stabbed in the back.
